Newquay might be one of the UK’s best places to surf, but there are stacks of other activities that also deliver fun and excitment. From pelting down hills in a giant ball, to zipwires, gokarts and sea kayaking, there are some seriously exciting things to do in North Cornwall. Should you fancy trying something completely different on your next trip, from coastal adventures to adrenaline sports, the following all come highly recommended:
Zorbing near Newquay
Zorbing is a wacky way to pack extra thrills and laughter into your holiday (Image: Wikicommons/ Nesnad)
We already know what you’re asking: What is Zorbing? It sounds like something aliens might do on holiday. Also sometimes called Sphereing, zorbing involves inserting yourself (and possibly a friend or family member) inside a huge bouncing ball and rolling down a slope. It certainly gets the adrenaline going, besides providing a novel experience you’ll be talking about for weeks after your holiday. For anyone who fancies a spot of zorbing in Newquay, the nearest provider is Cornwall Zorbing Park (literally two miles north of us). Prices start at £30 for two runs, but be warned: it's insanely good fun and quite addictive! See their site for more info: www.cornwallzorbingpark.co.uk
Try the Eden Zip Wire
For those with a head for heights, it doesn’t get a lot more exciting than flying along a zipwire. Cornwall has some quite spectacular places to take a high ride too, and we can think of none better than the zip wire run at the famous Eden Project. This is the longest zip wire in the UK, no less, and an absolute must if you visit this famous attraction. It’ll cost a little extra on top of your entry ticket, but you needn’t book- just turn up on the day (and don’t look down!): More details HERE.
Sea Kayaking Adventure Trips In Cornwall
Cornish Kayaking days are a fun way to explore the coast (pic credit:Channel Kayaks)
There are some wonderful places to go kayaking near Newquay, but you wouldn’t want to launch into the open sea without some experience. So while it's possible to hire kayaks by the hour, a much better (and safer) solution is to book an adventure day with friendly experts. There are various kayak tour companies in Cornwall, but Channel Kayaks come especially highly recommended, as they offer not only BCU qualified instructors, but local wildlife and fishing guides on their special adventure days, letting you sample a whole range of bonus activites and sublime locations. For example, you could join them for a kayak around Padstow, complete with wetsuit, equipment and fishing tackle hire, as well as a spot of lunch at just £99 per head. Beginners and more experienced paddlers are equally welcome.
Climbing & Coasteering Around Newquay
Are you the sort of visitor who is bored by a flat sandy beach and picnic? Would you rather be scrambling up rocks, battling waves and conquering the craggier parts of the local coast? If so, you simply have to try a coasteering or climbing adventure on your next visit! Several Newquay providers can arrange this, even if you’re a complete beginner. You could even try both in a single day if you book with Salt Air Adventures: www.saltair.co.uk
Gokarting near Newquay
For all serious petrol heads and speed freaks, a session on the gokarts is a thrilling holiday treat. At just a short distance from Newquay, St Eval Kart Circuit provides high speed thrills for all ages. And whilst it isn't the cheapest day out, there are some reasonably priced options for 15-20 lap races (from £45), and also lower rates for youngsters who want a taste of the track. Nor are bookings always necessary. For full details, see: www.cornwallkarting.com
