Fancy a taste of the real Cornwall on your next break by the sea? In terms of delicious local fare, there has simply never been a better time to visit Newquay. You’ll always find something fresh and tasty on our menus here at Hotel Bristol, which always feature daily specials and seasonal additions. Autumn is especially juicy, with some fabulous Cornish food and drink events and menus to charm the tastebuds of any serious foodie! Here's our quick guide to what's on in Newquay in the coming weeks:
Newquay Fish Fest 2017 (8-10 September)
Do you love eating seafood? If the answer is yes, you simply must come and experience this Newquay extravaganza! The town comes alive with stalls, street food and cooking demos. This is a great chance to meet the region’s top chefs and local fishermen. Meanwhile, delicious local ales, ciders and live music acts provide the ideal accompaniment. See the official site for full details and attractions to look forward to: http://www.newquayfishfestival.co.uk
Craft Gin and Cornish Ales at Hotel Bristol
Among the usual favourites on our drinks menu at the hotel, we will be welcoming a new range of craft gins to wet your whistle! Alongside our ever changing line up of real ales and ciders, there is sure to be something you fancy (our previous blog on craft booze has several fitting recommendations from Cornwall). We take these finer things in life pretty seriously in fact, with our newer staff just having undergone Cellar Management Training with Molson Coors. The practise should result in a perfect pint or cocktail every time on your visit!
Wadebridge Good Food and Craft Day (28th Aug 2017)
Should you arrive in Cornwall a little earlier, late August also sees a tasty day of fun at nearby Wadebridge. Think great street food, colourful local stalls and crafts and you’re half way there. An overlap with the local Cornwall Folk Festival also provides the perfect soundtrack to dinner, while you also have the Bank Holiday Monday to shake off any excess! See the Visit Cornwall site for further details, times and directions HERE.
Padstow Universal Cookery and Food Festival 2017 (20th Sept)
The North Cornish town of Padstow has become so synonymous with great grub, many now call it Padstein after TV chef Rick Stein. Nor is your food experience here limited to eating and making merry, because it is also a great destination for the keen budding chef to learn new skills. This event is a point in case, with a plethora of great demonstrations and talks. Whether you want to cook the perfect fish supper or brew your own cider, the experts will be in town to educate and inspire! At £120 it isn’t the cheapest, but for top class tuition and everything provided that’s still great value. More details HERE.
Newquay Beer Festival (22-24 Sept)
With over 70 ales and ciders available at just £3 a pint, it’s no wonder this brilliant beer-fuelled event is saying bottoms up to a fifth year. Entry is cheap too, with a 3-day pass at just a tenner, or even cheaper if you are a CAMRA member. All your favourite Cornish breweries will be there, along with samples from some of the best Cornish microbreweries to keep things even more interesting. See http://www.newquaybeerfestival.com
